Exhibition Reflection
What did you learn about your country/region of choice through this project? Explain what and how.
My country for this project was japan and I focused on learning what was happening during the 1800-1920. I learned about the Edo Period and the Meiji Restoration. Japan was cut off from the rest of the world until 1853 and became exposed to the modern advances happening in European and American countries. Japan then decided to catch up with the rest of the world by changing from being conservative to a more liberal perspective. They adopted a westernized military, and declared all social classes were equal so the common people can pursue any career they want without restrictions. Cities like Kyoto and Osaka thrived. More people started paying for entertainers and artists. Japan put in a national education system so more of Japan's population can read and write. Scholars were sent away to European and American educational institutions and brought back westerners to learn English. During the 1800 to 1920 there were a lot of big changes in Japan.
What item did you recreate? Why did you choose this item? Are you glad you recreated this item after seeing the final products at exhibition?
The item I chose to recreate is the San Francisco Japanese Tea Garden. I chose to create this item because it was an important way for Japan to introduce their culture to the rest of the world. I am glad that I recreated this item after seeing the final product at the exhibition because I think it looked great.
Describe your prototype process. Was this process helpful/successful? Provide 4 (at least) photos of your prototype.
To create the prototype, I got together with my group and first decided what we wanted to make. We did research on items and exhibits about Japan that went to World's Fairs and decided to recreate the San Francisco Japanese Tea Garden. It was helpful because it made us think about how we can add more detail in the final piece.

Based on what you saw at exhibition, which other country would you be interested in learning more about? Explain why.
I am interested in learning more about France because they had a very impressive model of the Eiffel Tower and I realized that I didn't know very much about it. If I got the chance to do this project again, I think it would be interested in learning more about it.
Do you feel proud of your booth, product, and overall participation at exhibition? Explain why and how. Provide at least 4 photos of your booth and yourself at exhibition.
I feel proud of my booth because my groups booth looked professional with tablecloth and art pieces we made, our product turned out very well and I made sure to talk enthusiastically and with correct historical information.

How do you think exhibition went?
I think the exhibition went very well. My group had all of our information prepared and the product and art pieces were completed. The only problem we had was that our lake in our model started leaking during the exhibition but other than that, all the buildings and trees on our product stayed on and weren't destroyed.
